It is not “news” that alcohol can impair a person’s judgment. The consumption of alcohol can lead people to do things they wouldn’t normally do. For some people, this impairment leads to driving under the influence or engaging in other types of reckless activity. One Michigan woman is facing arraignment following a high speed chase she propagated when police attempted to pull her over on suspicion of drinking and driving.
The woman, who has six prior DUI convictions, fled the scene when police made an attempt to stop her vehicle in Springfield, Michigan, in early August. Police say that the woman reached speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour as she sped through Springfield, Galesburg, and Augusta. The chase finally came to an end when, as the woman headed back towards Battle Creek, police officers used spike strips to pop her tires.
When she was finally pulled over, officers searched her vehicle and located a 12 pack of beer in her back seat. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and is being detained while she awaits arraignment. There is no indication as to why the woman decided to engage police officers in a high-speed chase through a number of unsuspecting Michigan communities.
Perhaps the woman’s history of issues with alcohol is a viable catalyst behind her choice to evade police. Regardless of her reasoning, she will face serious legal consequences as a result of her actions. For this reason, it could be considered a wise decision to enlist the aid of qualified legal counsel as court proceedings unfold.
