Drunk driving arrest stems from busted taillight

It’s not unheard of for an individual to go out and have a couple drinks after a long day of work. However, it’s a good idea for individuals to check their car for mechanical problems first; especially if they’re looking at their third offense for drunk driving. Such was the case for a man who was operating his vehicle while visibly impaired, in close proximity to Kalamazoo County, Michigan.

In this specific instance, the man was driving down a local road near Kalamazoo, Michigan with a broken tail light. Once the man was pulled over, the officer at the scene of the incident began the process of approaching the car to inform the man of the broken light. The man then promptly admitted his guilt, and was taken into custody. It was then determined that the man had been convicted of drunken driving or operating while impaired on two other occasions. The man was also operating his motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

Additionally, according to published reports, officers felt that the man was displaying many signs of intoxication. These signs included bloodshot eyes, and a noticeable odor of alcohol. It is not as this time known if the man was abusing other drugs such as marijuana or amphetamines.

Because this is the man’s third DUI offense, he will now be facing felony charges. Charges can carry penalties, such as:

  • Up to five years in jail
  • Fines reaching $5,000
  • Community service
  • Loss of driver’s license
  • Loss of vehicle

A Michigan attorney experienced in felony DUI offenses will be able to review the charges as well as the arrest report to determine if the defendant’s constitutional rights were protected, as well as review any of the alcohol testing reports and results.
