Being convicted of a sex crime in Michigan can not only cost you your reputation, but your livelihood as well. Many employers may be reluctant to hire someone who has a criminal conviction, while other careers require employees to have clean records. This can seriously limit your job options in the future and make earning a living difficult.
A doctor who has practiced in the Kalamazoo and Niles, Michigan area is facing this harsh reality after he was convicted of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. He will no longer be able to practice medicine after his medical license was taken away by the state.
He was charged after he allegedly mixed a narcotic with a woman’s alcoholic beverage while she was visiting his home last October. The woman said that the drink tasted bitter and that she was disoriented after only a few sips. The man allegedly had sex with the woman after she became unconscious.
In addition to the criminal sexual conduct, the man was also charged with attempted delivery of a controlled substance to commit criminal sexual conduct. He was also charged with falsely reporting a felony after he called the police and said that two people had broken into his home, stole a laptop, money and iPad and trashed his house last May. He pled guilty to all of the charges and was sentenced to 180 days behind bars with five years’ probation. He will also pay over $3,000 in fines.
