A 34-year-old man and his 22-year-old girlfriend, who referred to themselves as Bonnie and Clyde, were both taken into custody in Michigan. The man was wanted in connection with several home invasions that reportedly took place in the summer of 2012. He was charged with first-degree home invasion, receiving and concealing a firearm knowing it to be stolen and possession of a firearm by a felon. In addition, he was charged with being a habitual offender.
The man’s girlfriend told police that they would take the stolen items to Flint in exchange for drugs. She was charged with second-degree home invasion, and she pleaded guilty to the charge. Police say that the woman will testify against her boyfriend and will be sentenced in the case in December. There was no word as to whether the woman would get a reduced sentence in exchange for her testimony. She was already serving a 120-day sentence on a drug charge.
Authorities say that two firearms that were stolen during the crime spree were found in a nearby county. The man had reportedly been charged with 13 felonies since 2000, and he is being held on $600,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear at a preliminary exam on Dec. 19.
Anyone who is facing a felony charge may wish to consult with a criminal defense attorney. If convicted, the person may spend time in prison, be placed on probation and be ordered to pay court costs. However, an attorney may be able to dispute the charge at trial and get some or all charges dropped. This may be done by exploiting inconsistencies in witness testimony or errors in forensic evidence. If successful, it could lead to a plea agreement or a full acquittal.
