Michigan domestic dispute leads to murder charges

Just about every Michigander has found him or herself in the middle of a disagreement at one time or another. Most of the time, these spats settle in a matter of minutes, hours or days, with very little residual effects except for perhaps some hard feelings. However, in some instances, arguments become physical, leaving individuals seriously injured or even dead. In the aftermath of these situations, the police and prosecutors will try to decipher what happened and, most likely, will bring criminal charges against an individual.

This happened recently when a 61-year-old man was accused of allegedly killing his 55-year-old companion. According to reports, a domestic dispute turned violent when the man allegedly struck the woman with a kitchen pot lid. The woman was conscious when police arrived on the scene, but her health declined once taken to the hospital. She eventually died. Police, who had originally charged the man with domestic violence, have now amended the charge to homicide. They also state that alcohol may have played a role in the incident.

Violent crime charges, like murder, are not to be taken lightly. Individuals accused of these serious crimes can face significant penalties, especially if they fail to properly prepare their criminal defense. Therefore, they may want to seek legal advice. An attorney can fully analyze evidence, object to the prosecution’s evidence and legal arguments and tailor their legal arguments to the facts and the law.

A homicide conviction could lead to dire consequences, including imprisonment for years, decades or even life. In other words, individuals faced with criminal charges similar to those faced by the man discussed above have a major fight on their hands. They may therefore want to consider seeking out the help they need.
