Drugs can be highly addictive, and those who are in the grips of serious addiction can become the subject of criminal charges. This may be the case for one woman who was arrested for possession of methamphetamine possession after she was allegedly found in violation of her parole.
The woman was placed on probation for a meth-related case on early this year. During a compliance check by local police, officers claim they found more meth in the woman’s home and she now faces new charges.
A probation officer and members of the Kalamazoo enforcement team searched the home and found meth in the woman’s bedroom, in addition to other rooms throughout the home. Some of the meth was allegedly packaged for sale.
When law enforcement officials arrived, they found another man in the home who was also carrying illegal substances. The man was charged with possessing meth, possessing marijuana with intent to deliver and frequenting a drug house. The woman, on the other hand, is charged with possession of meth with intent to deliver, violating probation and maintaining a drug house.
Sentencing and penalties for drug charges vary according to state law and the amount of drugs in a person’s possession, as well as the offender’s past criminal history. In Michigan, meth possession can potentially result in a 20-year prison sentence. Because the woman was on probation when she was caught with the meth, she could potentially face especially harsh penalties this time around. She may be fined a large amount of money, given jail time or be required to enter a drug treatment program to overcome her addiction, which may be the best option given her apparent pattern of substance use.
