According to police, a 34-year-old man from Lansing inflicted non-life threatening injuries on his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend after slashing him with a weapon. Police are not disclosing the type of weapon allegedly used. If found guilty of the charges, his actions would be considered felony crimes.
The alleged incident took place early on the morning of June 21, when police were informed of a reported stabbing. According to police, when they arrived on scene, they saw the man running. The police used a canine dog to locate the man, who they say they found one block away hiding underneath a car.
The man who he allegedly caused injury to is a 27-year-old, also from Lansing. The accuser told police that the ex-boyfriend arrived at his house and asked to speak to his ex-girlfriend, who resides at the same house. When he opened the door, the accuser said the ex-boyfriend immediately slashed him, causing deep laceration wounds.
The man is facing charges for two felony crimes. The first is for assault with intent to murder, which carries a penalty of up to life in prison. The second is for first degree home invasion, which could result in up to 20 years behind bars. In addition, because a conviction for either crime would result in the man’s second overall offense, his sentence could be increased.
The judge has set the man’s bond at $100,000. His pre-trial conference and preliminary examination are scheduled for the first week of July. A person charged of such crimes should exercise their right to defend against any and all charges, because the penalties are serious.
