At this time of year, people are out shopping for Christmas presents and creating more business for stores and restaurants. However, one Michigan restaurant is concerned about the effect a recent crash may have on its business during this busy time of the year. As a result of the crash, one man now faces a possible drunk driving conviction.
The accident happened one evening in mid-December. Police claim that the driver of a pickup truck drove through a stop sign before striking a parked sports utility vehicle. The force of the impact allegedly propelled both the SUV and pickup truck into a portion of a downtown restaurant generally used for large parties.
Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the accident, but reports indicate that the restaurant sustained significant damage. The driver of the truck has since been arrested and accused of drunk driving. Police also say he may have been speeding at the time of the collision. It is unclear at this time how his sobriety was determined and what his blood alcohol content may have been at the time.
A drunk driving conviction can have serious consequences on a person’s professional and personal life. As in all criminal cases, Michigan prosecutors must prove the man’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. To do this, prosecutors must provide sufficient evidence to support the formal accusations against the man. Failure to meet this high burden of proof must result in a not guilty verdict. An experienced attorney can help those accused of drunk driving examine all of their options.
