The southwest Michigan town of Three Rivers has a population of approximately 8,000. Three Rivers is located south of Kalamazoo on Highway 131. Many of the buildings in historic downtown Three Rivers are on the National Historical Register.
The Name
Three Rivers is named for the St. Joseph River and two of its tributaries – Rocky River and Portage River. The St. Joseph River flows into Lake Michigan. Three Rivers was established in 1836.
Festival
The Three Rivers Water Festival is a three-day festival is held in June. The Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors and coordinates the event.
Recreation
There are nine parks in Three Rivers, plus many hiking and running trails. Parks can be reserved for special events.
The Abbey
St. Gregory’s Abbey, a Benedictine monastery, is located in Three Rivers.
