Unlawfully Driving Away Of An Automobile (UDAA)
Intentionally driving away in someone else’s vehicle without permission is a felony offense, punishable by up to five years in state prison. Likewise, aiding another person in stealing a motor vehicle is also a felony and carries the same penalties.
If you borrow the vehicle without permission (taking your uncle’s car for a joy ride, for instance), you can still face criminal penalties. According to Michigan Penal Code 750.414, use of a motor vehicle without authorization carries up to two years of jail time and fines up to $1,500.
Buying, Receiving Or Concealing Stolen Cars
If you buy, possess, receive or conceal an automobile that you know was stolen, or if you aid someone else in concealing a stolen vehicle, you may be convicted of a felony. This crime carries up to five years of prison time and either $10,000 in fines or three times the amount that the vehicle is worth, depending on which amount is greater.
